🚶♂️ 1. Decide Your Route
There are two common approaches from Kathmandu:
✈️ A. Fly-and-Trek (Faster & Easiest Start)

Domestic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj (gateway to Dolpo).

Nepalgunj → Juphal

Short mountain flight to Juphal airstrip — main trailhead.

Juphal → Dunai

Trek starts on this trail, through forests and along rivers.

Trek to Phoksundo Lake

Walk through Dolpo landscapes with gradually increasing elevation.

Reverse trek to Juphal and fly back via Nepalgunj to Kathmandu.

🚐 B. Overland + Trek (More Adventurous)

Nepalgunj → Juphal → Dunai

Take a short mountain flight from Nepalgunj to Juphal, the main airstrip of Dolpa.

From Juphal, begin trekking and walk downhill for a few hours to reach Dunai, the district headquarters of Dolpa and the official gateway to Shey Phoksundo National Park.

Overnight stay in Dunai before continuing deeper into the Phoksundo trail.
