π Overland to Dolpa: Your Essential Travel Guide
Experience the Bheri Corridor – The Gateway to Phoksundo & Upper Dolpa
Welcome to the adventure! The overland route to Dolpa has improved significantly. Whether you are avoiding flight cancellations or simply love a scenic road trip, here is the latest information for 2026 to help you reach us in Dunai.
π€οΈ Two Seasons, Two Experiences
The journey changes depending on when you travel. Please plan accordingly:
1. Dry Season (October – May) | The "Direct" Drive
-
Status: β Direct Bus Available
-
The Experience: A single bus can now travel all the way from Kathmandu (or Nepalgunj) directly to the Dunai market.
-
Convenience: You load your bags in Kathmandu and unload them at our hotel doorstep in Dunai.
-
Best For: Travelers seeking convenience and budget-friendly access.
2. Monsoon Season (June – September) | The "Adventure" Relay
-
Status: β οΈ Transfers Required
-
The Experience: The route is open, but nature takes over. Rising water levels at the Tallubagar and Chalgard streams may make them impassable for heavy buses.
-
The Relay: You may need to switch vehicles 2–3 times (typically at Tallu Bagar and Tripurakot).
-
Gentle Alert: You might need to walk across a suspension bridge while your luggage is portered to a waiting jeep on the other side.

π Traveler Tips
-
Book Ahead: Direct buses fill up fast in peak trekking season.
-
Pack Snacks: While local food stops (Dal Bhat) are frequent, having your favorite snacks makes the long ride sweeter.
-
Cash: Carry enough cash for the journey. ATMs are available in Kathmandu/Nepalgunj, but network connectivity can be intermittent in the hills.
-
Dust Protection: The mountain air is fresh, but the road can be dusty. A light scarf or buff is recommended for comfort.
